    Question Looking for Luthier, Florida

I am in Clearwater, Florida and can not find a Mando Luthier to do my set up on a new Loar F Style. Anyone out there know of a shop they can recommend. Not big on shipping and Sam Ash is all I have near me.

Charles Johnson from Mandolin World Headquarters is located in Brandon. He may know of someone in your area. Give him a call, he's nice to deal with. His info in on the Cafe here.

Yeah, let me know if you find one. I'm a good bit further south than you but what the hey? My longtime luthier is up in CT and that's even more of a drive.

    Hi Phin2,

I live in Clearwater also and really appreciate that you brought up this topic. I have been wanting to get some repair work done on my Gibson F-12 but have not been willing to ship it off to some unknown luthier out in the world. I have considered Bruce Weber in Montana, Skip Kelly, Lynn Dudenbostel and a few others but have not yet contacted anyone. I like the idea of being able to drive for a the drop off and pick up when the work is completed to save on shipping charges, although the cost of gas to drive up to Hawthorne and back would certainly negate any savings.

Do we know each other? The mandolin community here in Clearwater is pretty limited so it's possible. At any rate, I'm posting pix of the work I would like to get done done to the Gibson.

Before shot of the mandolin 15-20 years ago. After 15 - 20 years of deterioration.

Hope we get a chance to meet sometime. Kind Regards,
