    Goes pretty definitively back and forth from minor to major (I'm calling it major rather than mixolydian 'cuz of the II—V part, rather than treating it as mixolydian-to-major).

    There's any number of Irish Trad tunes that wobble freely all over the modes too, defying classification. My wife (way more of an IT pro than I) plays the last four bars of Mist Covered Mountain like this:

    I could never decide if Sweet Home Alabama was I—bVII—IV in D, or V—IV—I in G (like Magic Carpet Ride seems to be).

    Anyone else have this problem?

    I do have that problem now that you’ve brought it up

    Really, I’ve always thought of it in terms of the former, but now I think it’s ambiguous and I lean more toward key of G

    "Sweet Home Alabama" seems to be in G, as far as I hear it.

    Are we clearing things up or muddying the waters? I've always thought V - IV - I in G. Now I'm not so sure ...
