My goodness! You do turn out instruments with impressive frequency! This makes me wonder whether they are easy to build, or you are just that adept. I'll wager it's the latter, as your skill seems quite evident.

I'd guess that, since there are no frets, it can be any scale the player wishes. My query is why the fingerboard is so short. Are the strings tuned in close intervals to accommodate such a short fretting length? Ah - mostly fourths. So sayeth the wiki.

Yet another beauty, Jo. I am enjoying hearing them too on your YouTube channel. Such distinctive sounds those instruments have!

58.5cm, so the same as Turkish, but this is otherwise an Arabic oud in style, mainly influenced by Syrian and Iranian models. (Syrian and Iranian ouds also frequently use 58.5cm)

The fingerboard length is normal for ouds - they meet the body at the fifth (i.e. where the 7th fret would be), which works out as a 3rd of the total scale length. This is helpful for orienting yourself with the fretless fingerboard.

The tuning I use is C GG AA DD GG CC (the lowest G course can also be tuned down to F but I prefer G personally).

Yes that's the right neck length for an oud. The lavta has a neck that joins the body at the octave and has many frets.

Interesting - a combo! I have a Moroccan oud that is Arabic in build but a shorter scale like yours.

Lots of players use the CFADGC tuning; in addition to the CGADGC my first oud teacher also used DGADGC.

    I really like your work.

The pegs, probably violin pegs from a supplier, seem to have chalk or some white stuff on them. Also the darker wood on the top, does it affect the sound?

    Wow, this is so cool!

I always look forward to your posts here, and also to hearing the instruments on YT. Helps keep an open mind to all the wonderful musical instruments that are out there and all the music that might otherwise be overlooked.
