Thread: Is a January 87 Carlson signed Flatiron considered "Pre-Gibson"?

Default Is a January 87 Carlson signed Flatiron considered "Pre-Gibson"?

I have a Steve Carlson signed Flatiron A5 Artist signed 01-06-87. Would it be considered "Pre-Gibson" being that it was signed well before the transition?

At any rate, it is a very good mandolin, and in near mint all original condition. That may change a little as I am planning on having a little setup work, new bone nut, new bridge and possibly a new tailpiece.

I think with the setup work it will really come to life!

Well, that was my thought as well, but figured it would be better to ask tham make an assumption incorrectly.

    Thanks!

Huh -- I have a Gibson A/N Custom "pancake" mandolin, with a Carlson-signed label dated December 10, 1987. Was that his "transition" year?

According to Gruhn's Guide to Vintage Guitars, Gibson "acquired the Flatiron mandolin company in May, 1987."
