Default Hinged tailpiece cover on a Red Diamond mandolin

Here is something I've never seen before. It is the tailpiece cover on the 1980 Red Diamond in the classifieds. It is hinged on the treble side. Guess that will stop it from coming off and getting lost!

That is interesting, Charles! And if you’ve never seen it, I know it’s rare! Dan

I have one of those too! It came on a 2000 A5 I recently purchased. I don't think it was original...I believe the previous owner got it from Don. I've since replaced it with a James (they seem a little heftier to me).

I don't believe I've ever seen one of those either. I wonder who made them?

    I believe it's a "Price" made tailpiece

I had a Red Diamond with that tailpiece, it worked well - but not as good as a James.

Thanks Chris for the reply. I've seen several Price tailpieces, but they were not like this. They were a solid one piece of metal. But as I said, I've never seen one of these before....

I think all the vintage models have that tailpiece. I had a July 9 voiced A5 with that tailpiece.
