    Default RIP Tommy Edwards

By the looks of Andrew Marlin's Instagram page his buddy Tommy Edwards has passed. I do not know much about Tommy but have enjoyed his video's with Andrew over the years.

Simply a pillar in North Carolina bluegrass. Fabulous person and musician. When I think bluegrass guitar I think Doc, Norman, Tony, and Tommy. He held down a regular gig at the Q-Shack with Leroy Savage that was a guaranteed good time. Man will he be sorely missed around here.

Tommy was a true gentle Man. A mainstay of NC Bluegrass circles, he was always inclusive of others and kept his ears open to different genres of music. I first met Tommy when I moved to Durham in '82 and heard his group - the Bluegrass Experience - at the old Cat's Cradle. I regret that I was only able to pick with him a few times, but treasure each time I did. He was a public school teacher for many years, and the FaceBook comments from his students about him are marvelous. I always loved going to the Q Shack on Wednesdays to hear Leroy and Tommy spin their tunes. A big RIP to Tommy and condolences to his family.

Reminiscing about Tommy and remembered some videos of a great time I had thumping bass with him and Andrew at the Blue Note in Durham. His guitar playing was original and so cool!:

These vids are great, thanks! Especially appreciate that whoever was filming zeroed in on the fingers of each player during the breaks. Tommy had a really interesting way of playing a G chord...
