    First post here...has anyone heard of this antique Dailey or Sailey mandolin? Can't seem to find any info. Stamped 304920 inside. Please see photos...

    It looks to be an Oscar Schmidt "Stella" but sold by a third party- 1920s or 30s. If the number is on the brace below the sound hole it confirms it as OS- the number is supposed to include the year it was made but this may be an urban myth. The brand was sold to Harmony in 1939- so there are plenty of Stella branded mandolins from after that date- yours is from the earlier period.     The imprint looks like Daney to me and it may have been added by an owner at some point and may not be a brand name at all. It was most likely built by Oscar Schmidt in New Jersey as NickR has stated. Many manufacturers built "For the Trade" with instruments being sold labeled or unlabeled to distributors, retailers, schools, and teachers to be sold as their own product. It was a common practice.

    With all of that said it's a fairly common entry level instrument.
