    Mandolin content, you ask? Yes, as his father started him on the 8-stringer (but tuned like a uke). This is from his first LP as a leader, 1954.

    Thanks for this. He’s one of my heroes. Got to see him in a small club in PDX in the early 80’s. Wonderful, a cultural hero for me, loved him with Red Norvo. I recall the story that he quit when it got so ‘you had to be a pro to know if anyone was any good’.
