    Default Strings for GDAE tenor guitar?

    I just got one of these Ibanez tenor guitars;

    These days I play mostly trad on tenor banjo (vintage Weymann) but sometimes I want something a bit mellower especially for slower tunes.

    For $200 delivered this guitar is a peach. However the strings it came with are too light and quiet for what I want to play. Any recommendations? Could I use Octave Mando strings? 2 sets of strings for the price of one.

    Hi Paul

    Nigel Forster created a very useful blog a few years back which I think you might find helpful. I bookmarked it the moment I came across it!

    Thanks Aidan-- I had seen that before. The video is very good but I didn't want to mess with buying separate strings so I went with the John Pearce Irish Tenor set;
    13,20w,30w,42w. So far I like them. I got a much bigger sound right away. Not just louder but more complex. They're a bit brassy sounding right now but I suspect that will fade with time and playing.
