    Default Pickguard removal Old A

I’m considering removing my pickguard to facilitate lowering action/refitting the fixed bridge.
I’m wondering if I should just leave it off and safely store it away. I have some fear of breaking pickguard.

They can be very difficult to remove. Not only can you break the guard, you can also damage the mandolin itself.
I strongly recommend that you let a seasoned pro who knows old Gibson mandolins handle the job for you.
I generally don't think it necessary for a person with special experience on mandolins to execute most general maintenance or repair work on these instruments, but for this job you definitely need to take it to someone who has removed several in the past.
