Thread: Schottis från Idre - Swedish folk (dance) tune

Default Schottis från Idre - Swedish folk (dance) tune

A *long* time ago I played this with a few other folks in a Scandinavian folk dance group.

My son recorded his fiddle part in his apartment in NYC, and I applied my fledging picking to some added tracks. Lots of delay in the mix

Really nice, thanks for sharing this.
-I was wondering, is this the notation?

It's more like this one: http://www.folkwiki.se/Musik/3222

I'm playing the parts in the book of transcriptions by Nils Löfgren (not the American rock guy). Svensk Folkdansmusik: 95 låtar arrangerade för 2 fioler is one of the best I'd found with the tunes from the traditional "green book" (and not that Green Book [movie]!) used by Swedish folk dancers.

Thanks, it’s a great tune, do you know if there’s a way to get the .abc file?
An .abc/PDF option comes up on the site but only for half a second, and very confusingly they’ve written everything in a strange foreign language! What is that?

    -just found this too! https://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/g...scussionid=641

On my computer, Chrome browser, clicking the .abc file (at your first link) causes it to be downloaded. I don't do ABC, so no idea if it would open in an app designed for it.

And, that first link may be be a "schottis från Idre," but it's not the one commonly played by that name. Every little village/crossroads, or "by" in Swedish," might have tunes from there that get passed around and even transcribed, but the one video that played in that 2nd link is the tune, if not the rhythm.

I would probably not play the rhythm quite like our son did, though it's very close, and the tempo is fine. But, he'd picked that up off some other video, so I followed as best I could. If we do another, I'll try to get the first shot at and see how it turns out. It's also common that when these are played, there are a *lot* of fiddles and even nyckelharpa players, so the tempo can get a bit indistinct!

Tempo and all sounded very Swedish to me, not that I'm an expert, more of a casual enthusiast.
