Default Weber Gallatin faded leather look

I recently found some old listings for a (limited edition?) 'faded leather' color Weber Gallatin like this:

    https://www.southshoremusic.com/shop...-x33226354.htm

And I absolutely love the combination of dark color with no binding. I think it looks amazing! Sadly, I don't think they're available in that variant anymore. Does anyone know of any other mandolin that has this 'unbound' look with a dark finish?

I'd be interested in any other examples of currently available unbound F-style mandolins in general besides the Gallatin. I think Breedlove mandolins are like this, but I can't tell if Breedlove is even still producing mandolins these days...

Edit: For what it's worth, I hadn't seen this: https://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/c...-Manufacturing So I guess Weber's off this list as well.

Hi Tony! It's not a Weber, but in my search for a mandolin of my own, I found that Eastman carries a 515cc model that they call the comfort contour. It is unbound like the Weber and the edges are rounded for extra comfort. You may want to check it out!

Ha, woah, this is awesome, thanks! I actually just purchased a 315 that I love the color and sound of, and is my first F style! I was just perusing other mandolins for, you know, later... and came upon this style.

That's really neat though, I didn't realize the 515 came in that variant - it looks quite nice!

When you’re ready to move up the food chain (if you ever feel the need to, as I’d still have my 315 were it not for a downsize a couple years ago), consider also discussing an unbound (or darker bound) option and that darker tobacco finish with a solo luthier. Many are willing to accommodate such requests and can build in tone that some (not all) of the mass produced mandos just can’t consistently reach. Nothing wrong with a good Eastman, Weber, etc (I won a Weber OM—post Bruce—that I love), of course, but two of my 2 favorite mandos to date have been a Silverangel econo and my Kelley A5. Just food for thought…

If I understand the look you are looking for, doesn't the Weber Red Rocks fit the bill? The fact that it's deeper than a traditional f-style is interesting, I'd like to try one.

ETA: the one I posted has more of a sunburst. The Gallatin you posted looks a bit more like I would imagine a violin. I think I slightly prefer the Gallatin looks wise, but sorta like them both.

Rigels have contoured bodies (w/ radiused edges) and feel great to hold.

those come up for sale every now and then, i would check places like Themandolinstore, gregboyds, fiddlersgreen, that shop in NC that i cant remember at the moment. these are fine mandolins and at a much cheaper price than current. they sound and perform quite well. they pop up every few months here in the classifieds also. keep your eyes open and search often and you will find exactly what you see.

    good luck

Don't think the faded leather was a limited edition, just a color option for a few years. Back before getting my Gallatin was checking Reverb on a regular basis and they seemed to turn up on there. Of course, there is nothing now.

The Gallatin is a good instrument. Even with other instruments, it could easily be my one and only. (Yeah, who am I kidding?)

Faded leather ? doesn't look very faded to me, I'd call that dark brown.

If folks are interested, one of these actually popped into the classifieds today!

...I'm unfortunately not in a place to spend a couple thousand on a mandolin at the moment, but I figured I'd shout it out in case someone else was looking for something similar.

Well I have a Weber Gallatin Sopranino. Same amazing look, but a third smaller. Tuned up a fourth from standard.

And so you can better see the size, here it is next to my A2.

I agree they are a stunning looking mandolin. And of course they play real fine.

Jeff, thanks for sharing that! Really cool! I had read about soprano mandolins but never seen one in the wild. Are there any other well known makers that produce them these days?
