The last one went for almost $1800 IIRC. Shopgoodwill is not necessarily a place to find bargains.

Is Goodwill a charity?
-if Goodwill got the mandolin for free, then the buyer would just be giving a donation to charity?
Would that be tax deductible?
Apologies if I’ve got this wrong!
More than $1800, actually. https://www.shopgoodwill.com/Item/123769761

The person who donated the mandolin to Goodwill would be eligible for a tax deduction.
If you give money to a charity and receive something in return, you can deduct only the amount you gave that is over the market value of the thing you receive. This usually wouldn't apply to items purchased from a Goodwill store, since the whole premise of shopping at such stores is that you pay less than market value for your items.
I suppose if you kept your receipts and could prove that you paid $2,000 at the Goodwill for a $100 ukulele, and you had a good accountant and tax attorney, you might be able to claim a deduction for the $1,900 you overpaid. But don't hold your breath.

It needs a new E string saddle. And the mold needs to be cleaned off the peghead and the pickguard replaced yesterday.
I give 50/50 odds that the top brace is loose.
Not a bad buy if the neck is reasonably straight, you don't mind finish crazing that is heavier than usual, and the price doesn't go much higher.
But all we have seen suggests that the price will indeed go higher.
i bought a Zeta electric violin on Shopgoodwill for what I thought was a decent price, and did manage to flip it after paying a princely sum to have both bows rehaired, plus some more money to fix the battery box. I think I netted about $100 when all was said and done, and I worked hard for it. Oh, and I kept the better of the bows.
