Default 8 string tenor guitar Pono MND30

the Pono MND-30 makes a great 8 string tenor guitar. Sold as a guitar bodied octave mandolin, it's 23" scale is perfect. It is loud and "jangley"...1 3/8 nut and radiused fret board all make it easy to fret for that 12 string sound.

Their 6 string offerings are really tempting as well. One of their 4 string steel offerings are probably going to end up on my wall sooner than later.

that's the small bodied, 21" scale model. the 23" scale with guitar body is what have. I think the longer scale would give more string options. I'm dDgGBBEE on mine with silk and steel wounds and .016, .024 and .025 Thomastik-Infeld wound nylon trebles. they drive the top just fine...don't know about more traditional tenor guitar tunings.

I play guitar and a BR-40T. I'm interested in the shorter scale Pono, but worry that fretting double strings will be tough.

the 23" scale frets like butter. I imagine the 21" would be soft as well with the right string set. I use silk n steel wounds for the D and G along with thomastik Infeld .016, .024 and .025 wound nylon with rope core for the trebles. It is loud and bright. It required no modifications.
