    Default greg butler/ viper strut

I haven't heard Greg Butler mentioned at the Cafe. I know nothing about him except that he plays or played with a band called Free Grass Union. This lovely jazz piece came up on my sweetheart's Spotify. I thought I'd share it with you jazz mandolin buffs.

If the links don't work, search YouTube for "Greg Butler/ Viper Strut".

Robert Johnson's mother, describing blues musicians:
"I never did have no trouble with him until he got big enough to be round with bigger boys and off from home. Then he used to follow all these harp blowers, mandoleen (sic) and guitar players."

    Hi,

Thanks for posting that, I enjoyed it. Never ever heard of him, so will have to research to see if he’s got anything else out in a similar vein.

    Regards,

I've never heard of him, but as this band looks like they would play music I would like, I clicked a few links. It appears Greg has moved on and they no longer have a mandolin player with them.

He released a solo album earlier this year:

I'm not so good with links, but it is called Leaving the Cave and available on spotify.

As you said, Leaving The Cave, from which "Viper Strut" is taken, is available from a number of sources. "Eagle's Nest," another tune from the album, is now available for download from the Cafe's MP3 site, listed four days after I made the OP above. I'll call Eagle's Nest, newgrassy, for lack of a better term. I'm no expert on grasses.
