| Steven Andersen's excellent reputation is based on his archtop guitars, as well as his mandolins, and this mandolin was made before he was building many archtop guitars. During these early Sandpoint, Idaho days Steven was building OM-style guitars and mandolins, and this serial #27 A model shows how thoroughly he'd mastered the craft. From the subtle shading of the light honeyburst finish, and ivoroid binding on all edges, to the delicate "SA" pearl logo on the headstock, this is no "early effort," instead it's the work of a builder who matured early (and then kept going). Balanced tone up and down the fretboard, only the lightest fretwear, it appears this mandolin was parked quite some time ago, but in ideal conditions. |
