    Default Interesting mandocello on Reverb

I spotted this Finn mandocello on Reverb. It looks like the seller (Willie's American Guitars) also has a mandola by the same maker. I'm not familiar with Finn but I like the shape on this one. It does look more like a flat not carved top. I would like to see a carved mandolin with this shape.

while I don't dislike it, I can't say I really like it either.

Okay - first off - bias alert - am a long time customer of Willie's and I have met Finn. Maybe I am too loyal to be neutral on the subject. Finn used to make violins. The mandolins will not win any beauty contests. They are of workmanlike quality and loud. The tops are carved and not flat. There are some videos on YouTube showing some of the earlier instruments as well as some interviews with Finn. Check Willie's channel.

Almost bought one of the early mandolins he made, but then the Collings MT that is in my signature showed up and that went home with me instead.

Thanks Eric, I hope he continues to build and develop. Glad to hear they are carved.

I think Willie also told me that Finn makes them out of reclaimed wood - is that correct, Eric?

It might help a lot if they showed a side view or two. Same for the mandola. It still looks like both have flat tops.

See for yourself... If you get tired of tone monster you can hear a human (though very obviously not a mandolin player, as he says) play them starting at 2:48. Hmmmm... I leave that for your own opinions.
