Default Correct Bridge Slot Spacing for teens/early 20s Gibson

    Cumberland offer the following:

1 9/16" from the outer G string to the outer E string or 1 5/8"

Which would suit an early Gibson oval hole, non-truss rod. I think they have slightly wider necks.

Maybe someone has an original on hand they could measure?

    Thanks.

    Bazz.

Actually my '22, with truss rod, has a 1 1/4" nut, I had an '18, without truss rod, that was 1 1/18". Not all of the older ones were wider. I would put a spacing on the bridge that is easier to play and not worry about original spacing, which varied anyway. When I put a new saddle on my bridge I narrowed the spacing to be the same as my other mandolins. Much easier to play for me. I don't worry about originality on a new part, as long as I don't permanently modify the original instrument.
