    Default My First Bowl oud/Lute

Hi all Iam new and this is my first post. Iam a Ukulele player and have made 3 Ukes for my own pleasure. As I love a woodworking challenge I have made a bowl back Oud/Lute(see picture) without any planes. Hence the bowl is a little large I think. So I would be very grateful for any body that can help me with a set of planes for my next project, a photo or a jpg. would make me very grateful for your help.

Looks great! Your design (with the separate flat bottom) is actually closer to a Balalaika or Georgian Panduri than an oud, but great work either way!

I'd love to hear how it sounds.

Some very creative touches there, Staso. I recommend that you have a browse through Jo Dusepo's website (she has already posted above in this thread) for loads of information on how to build those instruments, and she also has her own YouTube channel with lots of sound samples of her instruments - she plays as well as builds!

Thanks all for your kind comments. Jo is there a ratio, for sound hole area to volume of body to get the right acclimation. Also do you have a copy of any planes that I could use to build to scale an Oud/Lute that you do not mind sharing.
I will let you know on the sound in a few weeks when its ready to be played. As I have to wait for a friend to professionally tune as it has a floating bridge. Is there a way I can determine the correct bridge position.
