Default Providence Mandolin Orchestra Benefit Concert, 8-29-2021

The Providence Mandolin Orchestra (PMO) will return to live performance with a benefit concert (free will offering) on the lawn at North Meadow Farm, 158 East Old Route 6, Hampton CT, on Sunday, August 29, at 4:30 PM EDT. This is the first of several planned performances over the next 2-3 years or so (pandemic-dependent) to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the modern PMO in the early 1970s. The program will feature music from the three main periods of PMO history -- the original PMO, founded by William Place Jr in 1911 and lasting until around 1919; the Providence Plectral Society, founded by Hibbard Perry in 1930 and lasting until 1942; and the modern PMO, founded by Perry in the early 1970s and led by him until his retirement in 1989, when the present director, Mark Davis took over. Works by Odell, Luigini, Manente, Woelki, Stephen Lalor, James Kellaris, and Piazzolla (program notes are attached). If you are in the vicinity, please stop by.
