    Default Poor Richard's Blues

Great tune off of Poor Richard's Almanac, a very early recording with Sam Bush, Alan Munde, and Wayne Stewart. I've been working on it--this one needs to be played more. Anyone else pick this one?

Great tune! I've got a version of it with Sam and Tony playing a duet.

I'd like to share what I found on my hard drive:

The version from 1988 is Acoustic All-Stars (full band), and the 1995 is the Sam/Tony duet.

    Enjoy!

Did you use ireal for the backing track? If so, any chance of seeing that and some of the others uploaded to the forums?

    Great Don.
I haven't heard that tune for decades - where have I been.
The clip sent me straight to your web page and Hillbilly Chamber Music is downloading as I type.
No wait, its ready to unzip!
Recommended if my humble opinion means anything.
Love those Gils, particularly the Model 1. It has a similar tone to my 3C only a little breathier - perfect for those tunes I reckon.

Les, thanks so much for your kind words on my music!

The question is: why aren't more people playing this tune? I have the only mando version on youtube. That's not right. There's one banjo version. Other than those 2, nothing. This tune deserves to be played.

brent, once I figure out the irealb messageboard, I'll post the tunes I've created charts for. I can't find irealb charts for the tunes I want.

Thanks, Don. Looking forward to it. I agree-seems someone needs to play it on an in-print album to raise its popularity. I picked up the LP a couple of years ago and also became obsessed with Poor Richard's Blues.

I think I got it posted in the irealb forum. Let me know if you can get the file.

    Don,
Thanks for posting the video - really helps starting out, as it seems these darn mandolins have so many notes on each string compared to a guitar!

What a great tune this is, for a fair number of reasons. But I can’t get it down. For some reason I keep making more mistakes, some of the turnarounds maybe are ambiguous, or maybe I can’t see the whole tune. And because I like it so much, I’m learning it too fast.
I’d really appreciate it if anyone has the Tab?

There's a great version of Poor Richard's in TablEdit format at mandozine.com. There's a free TEF viewer you can download to read the TEF file linked below. Enjoy!

this is the version I learned and then tweaked a little but if you think the OP's was slow mine is molasses, but intentional I like the bluesy sound from a slower rendition

I like to write out stuff sometimes, so I have a version of PRB in Tabledit, it has two mandolin solos, a guitar solo, rhythm guitar and a bass line. The first mandolin solo is based on and very similar to the one Stangeland did for Mandozine. The second mandolin solo is based on Don Grieser's second solo from the video above. The guitar solo is not so hot, I never polished that for performance as I spend my time practicing mandolin on this tune.

I'll link to a PDF below; the PDF will have the mandolin and guitar solos in TAB only - that will eat up a few pages. Maybe it could be a springboard for others to learn and develop their own versions of this tune. If anyone wants a TEF file, notation, etc. just let me know.

And here is one of my slow attempts with this one on mandolin:
