Why in the world would someone alter the F holes of a well known and respected builder? If you have an issue with the build, move on.

A bunch of stuff with four strings
The size of Oliver's f holes reminded me of an Everett Kettler mandolin I previously owned that also had very slender f holes. It was a very nice mandolin but didn't quite have the brightness I liked in the tonal response. Yes, I succumbed to the temptation to open up the f holes (under 10%) and that brought out what I wanted to hear. That may have also helped with the re-sale sometime later.
