Default Mandolin Cafe Member Bogle Has Passed Away

It is with great sadness that I let you all know that Mandolin Cafe member, "Bogle", passed away the morning of January 10th, 2023. Bogle was a close friend of mine and truthfully, he was like a brother to me. We met at IBMA in Nashville over a decade ago and discovered that we lived within easy driving distance of each other in Florida.

Bogle and I have picked music together countless times, talked in depth about mandolins, guitars, and music. He often traveled to hear me play and sing in bands and as a solo act. He was an excellent mandolinist, guitarist, and upright bassist and had been in several bluegrass bands over the years. His kindness and wit were just amazing. I wish that I could have just one more chance to talk with him and one more jam, but that is not to be. I will miss him for the rest of my days and I am so very thankful, honored, and blessed that he was my very good friend. RIP, Bogle.

Sorry that you, and we, have lost a friend and comrade.

I've wondered that if (when) I was to die, no-one would inform the forum.

    I would just fade away...

Sorry to hear about your friend. May his memory be a blessing.

Steve Dennison AKA: "Charles Bogle" (WC Fields fans will know) or affectionately as "Bogle" to his friends, had been my close friend of over 50 years, about 35 of which as bandmates in at least 3 Bluegrass bands. We traveled and roomed together while we performed as well as since he moved to Florida around 15 years ago. Bogle was mainly known as a super solid acoustic bass player but was quite accomplished on both guitar and mandolin. In the 1970s we played in the Bakersfield, CA based band, "Stoney Point" and recorded one vinyl LP, "Back in the Hills." From 93 to 03 we were in two iterations of "Pacific Crest Bluegrass Band" with separate CDs "Back in Bakersfield Again" and "Poppin Johnny." Bogle was one of a kind with a wry sense of humor who had a nick name for everyone he knew. I became "The Cuz", "Cuzzin" or simply "Cuz?" He was really bright and insightful with close to a photographic memory and encyclopedic knowledge of both vintage and contemporary guitars, mandolins and other acoustic instruments. He was very supportive of me and my mandolin building enterprise and in recent years would fly out to the Seattle area when I was displaying and demoing my instruments at Wintergrass. He was really funny and as good a friend as anyone could have. I had moved to east Tennessee about a year ago and not only had we been planning a possible trip to the SPGMA event in Nashville the end of this month but my wife and I were planning an RV visit to Florida in the spring.
There is a definitely a big empty space left in my life and to say he will be missed is an understatement. Rest in Peace my friend!

Steve aka Bogle was a dear friend. I learned so much from talking to him about instruments and playing music together. I'm glad to have acquired one of his mandolins, a Ratcliff Silver Angel distressed A model. I will always think of him when I play it. Until we meet again, rest in peace my dear friend.
