Thread: Mazas 12 Little Duets #1 Rondo

Default Mazas 12 Little Duets #1 Rondo

Our son stopped by for a week+ of working from our home (a break from his NYC apartment), and brought his mando along with some easy duets. We didn't get much time, and my reading skills suck, but we muddled through a couple. Here's the 3rd part (Rondo) from the first one in the book.

Ah, Mazas Duos! Great tunes and played quite well for a home visit. I usually play them on violin and it's fun to hear them on the mandolins.

    Mazas! My boyhood friend.
My violin teacher and I spent many hours with him.

The mp3 sounds really good. Great job.

Back when I was taking violin lessons I discovered Mazas duets. At a certain point in my lessons, year three I believe, it became obvious that my fiddle playing was not going to get much farther than constant torture for me and the instructor. So instead, I paid her to play Mazas duets with me on mandolin.

Violin and mandolin on these duets is really a lovely experience. Mazas tosses the melody back and forth and it is interesting to hear the differences between how a mandolin can articulate a phrase and how a violin can then pick it up. A fun musical conversation between cousins. Really great contrasts that make it a ton of fun. Money well spent.
A talent for trivializin' the momentous and complicatin' the obvious.

Thanks for listening and commenting! Sifting through some of the takes (just left the Zoom running): here's the Andante from that same duet. (We let the tempo get away a bit, and dynamics are still a struggle for me...)
