Hey Dem, are you parking a car in your house? I thought NY apartments were small?

2 from Steve Boeh and 3 from Lloyd LaPlant
Is there a significant voice difference in the three F LaPlats?

A bit OT, but I'm surprised that experienced players will order expensive instruments 'off plan' from any maker. You can expect a quality well made instrument from a good maker, but even Stradivari made some 'dogs' (now very expensive dogs, but $$$s don't make them sound an better). At a finer point of difference, there's no guarantee that the sound will turn out exactly as you hoped. It might be a great sound - for someone else. Personally, I'd always wait till it was made and played in so I can find out what I'm getting before splashing for a quality instrument.

Here is my pair, both built by Hans Brentrup: a 2003 M21V and a 2007 23V (natural top w/blackburst back & sides).

I’ve done the opposite twice. Both my custom orders caused me a great deal of anxiety, and apprehension…and then boundless joy!
The first one was when I was young and impulsive, then it took me a decade to get the guts to do it again…I better get on a list soon, I’m almost down to 5 more years for another custom!

Here is my pair of mandolins built by Canadian builder Larry Muth of Muth Mandolins. The F is a 2020 build and the A is from 1996.

2 from Steve Boeh and 3 from Lloyd LaPlant
I would love to see those one day.
Love my LaPlant and I had a Boeh at one point also, which I miss.

The 2 on the left have red spruce tops have more of a Loar like punchy midrange tone. The red one has an Engelmann top and is a little more warm and rich.

Great to hear it worked out well, Matt - anyone else have similar, or different, experiences?
