    Default I found this…..

I started building an archtop tenor guitar, the back plate is apple wood, as I was getting deeper into what looked like a clean piece of wood, I started to notice a knot appearing!

The wood was given to me as a trunk section around 6 years ago, I managed to split it in half with wedges, it was not a very clean break but had nice colour.

So I persevered with the shaping only to now expose a piece of lead!
I can only imagine this is a .22 bullet that must of been fired many years ago and had completely healed over.

Leave it, maybe stabilize with superglue, and you truly will have a one-of-a-kind instrument with a compelling story! Really cool to have along with the spalted figure in the maple.

I have a picture somewhere of the owner of one of the smaller custom guitar builder shops using a metal detector on a log before they resawed it. I'm going to guess it's a common occurrence.

The bullet is there to stay, I am building it to order, the prospective new owner was quite amused to see it and happy to keep it!

It is kind of interesting to see how the tree handled the damage caused by the bullet. I was never able to obtain the bullet that was pulled out of my leg but if I could have I would have made it into something worth keeping
