Default Interesting F4 - Virzi but no trussrod

Just came across this on Reverb:

    https://reverb.com/item/46370067-gib...m=Feed%20Email

I don't think I've seen this combo before. I'd always thought Virzis came a few years after trussrods were introduced.

No serial number or FON which doesn't help.

I can't say for sure from the pictures, but to me it looks like it's got a lacquer finish. While the mandolin appears to have been built sometime in the late 'teens to 1922 at the latest, I'll bet a dollar that it went back to the factory later. A Virzi could have been installed at that time.

It was sent back to the factory and the Virzi was put in, retro-fitted. It also looks to be refinished later on, the finish is not 20's "I don't think anyway at a glance" Like a load of Loar 5's the Virzi's were added later, they sawed off the back and put the Virzi's in.

I instructed the seller how to find the FON. It's 11068. So 1918?

1917, according to "Spann's Guide to Gibson."
The finish is definitely not correct for that period.

Only if the capo is 1920's vintage, and hasn't been refinished. Or had any parts replaced.
