Thread: Any info? No markings or labels

Default Any info? No markings or labels

I came across my grandmother's mandolin which I'm told she played when she was young. She was born in 1915, but I don't know what "young" means in that context.

Regardless, I cannot find any kind of markings or label. It appears like there used to be a label inside, some adhesive residue is present, but of course it is gone now.

Honestly, I would be happy to pass this instrument on to someone who might be interested in it. I'm sure it can use a little work, one of the tuning gears is missing. But it overall seems to be in decent shape. There is a case also, the leather has all rotted away, but it might be restorable.

If someone was willing to pay for shipping, I'd be happy to pass it on.

Default Re: Any info? No markings or labels

The Chicago builders built many instruments "for the trade" with no labels or markings. That way the retailers, schools and teachers could sell them as their own brand by adding a paper label or not. It appears that this one has a modified bridge and you're missing a gear. The tuners need to be replaced as the chances of you finding the parts is pretty slim. Chances are the label as you described it just fell out. We limit commerce to the classifieds so I'm going to close this thread an anyone that might be willing can send you a Personal Message. It appears from your IP address that you are in the Atlanta area.
