Thread: Here's my sad mandolin story...

Default Here's my sad mandolin story...

    So,

I purchased a really nice mandolin on the other side of the country, the same side that my in-laws live on. Thinking I was smart for avoiding shipping, saving money and getting the mandolin to me quicker I asked my Mother-in-law, who was coming to visit to hand deliver it, earning her potential for Mother-in-law of the year. The night before she was supposed to come out my kid developed a bad cold...

She decided to postpone her trip...

And now my really nice mandolin is marooned on the other side of the country with my in-laws.

That’s really unfortunate Josh, but I think you have an instrument or two that might console you

But I’m on the east coast now. I could pick it up and bring it West…………..

Hope your son gets well quickly.

My sad mandolin story is that I don’t have a really nice mandolin waiting for me on the other side of the country.

So what’s Nana picking on this weekend?

If the girl next door had said, ‘yes I will marry you,’ then you’d be playing your mandolin right now.

    Demetrius,

What were your thoughts on that Gil? I know you had one a few years ago and have had your hands on your share of fine instruments. Appreciate any thoughts on it.

Josh, that mandolin is a fantastic example of Steve’s work. I think it has spent much time in the case so I found it to be sleepy but you can tell it is there. It has that Gilchrist low end without being muddy. My brother has one from the batch somewhat close to that one with the same D log and when he first received it I thought it felt really tight and was definitely asleep. It too spent so much time in the case that it started remembering it’s tree life. Now his mandolin is an absolute cannon and will only get better. When your Gilchrist arrives, literally beat the heck out of it and don’t look back. I have to say, I quite miss it but I’m happy you’re getting it man...

Now that I (slow as I am) know what it is, I know congratulations are truly in order. Teach that horse who's boss!

    And color me slightly green.

This is our struggle here. I can't provide any recent pics or sound clips since I don't have it... if all goes well tomorrow this may change. For now you will have to settle for some pics Mr. Gil took when he built it. http://www.gilchristmandolins.com/615
