Default Items stolen from David Grisman's gig last night

Heads up... would appreciate folks sharing this sad news wherever they can, just sent us by David Grisman:

Sorry to report a theft from AC Marriott Valet Parking in Portland, OR yesterday (playing first Dawg Trio gig in 2 years). The following items in a black Samsonite carry on case were stolen:

    4 Neumann KM-84 mics
2 Audix SCX25A mics (matched pair)
    200+ Acoustic Disc CDs
    70 Art prints
    Art Portfolio

Perhaps you can put the word out....

    Thanks,
    Dawg

If anyone has info on this feel free to contact me as we're in frequent contact.

Unbelievable......not really but truly sad. We have had limited options for live music the past few years and someone is finally able to perform and some low life does something like this. This is not some highly paid band that plays in huge arenas, just a bunch of good guys trying to make a living. Sorry to hear this.

I've posted a link to this thread on banjohangout.
It wouldn't hurt for someone who is active on the guitar forums to do the same.

Sad, I live on the Oregon coast, will keep an eye out on Craigslist etc. I was in Portland overnight about a month ago and someone tried to steal a tire off my pickup. Crazy times we live in.

Horrible news. So people understand, there are several thousand dollars wrapped up in those microphones. This is a big loss, a devastating blow to one of the all-time greats. I'm not a religious person, but I pray for their recovery, and his. Wish we had a heart emoji; this is the best we have:

A single Neumann KM84 like those goes for north of 2k these days. Times 4.

Stealing from musicians infuriates me. The lowest of the low.

Sorry to hear of this Dawg.

Any Sr#'s on the KM-84's there are a number of places to look online of course and I would put the word out on Gearspace (formally Gearslutz) the Pro forum. Can't hurt.

Right. Should have said "over ten thousand." Maybe that was too painfully real. Still is. Gawd, Dawg! Just horrible.

Wow, one microphone is worth a piece of land up in the hills with an cabin on it.
And there’s someone right now, up there in a cabin watching the security video footage on a laptop, and writing a song about the whole adventure.
And then there’s the film rights, tee shirts, mugs, festival up in the hills.
    Nice one Dawg!

    Question:
The security film. The thief was wearing a suit, right?

Enough. No mood for putting up with thread derailing. From this point forward it would be a very good idea to not post further in this discussion.

Thank the good Lord that none of Dawgs very special instruments weren't taken! I imagine most thieves would stay away from those? "My Uncles pre-war Flathead banjer was stolen along with a late 60's Gibson J-50 with a Martin top my Gramps put on-great guitar! The guitar was never found but luckily his banjo was found sitting by a dumpster! It had his contact info inside so the lady that found it called him right away-awesome honesty on her part! Praise the lord he got her back! But who knows what goes on in their brain to steal anyway! That is one thing I despise is thievery! What goes around eventually comes around one way or another. Its just sad that after the JOY the Dawg Trio brought to his fans this had to happen. "I highly doubt any of the fans did this?" In this day and age we can look at it like this at least Dawg and Trio wasn't beat down or worse being the gig was in Portland!! My heart and prayers are with them and all others who are taken advantage of. Lets hope the security video brings about the perpetrators!

I remember that 15 years or so ago, Dawg had a gig in Bid Sky, MT, and had a mandola stolen. It was missing for a long while, then was returned via the mail.
I hope his mics will have a similar reunion.

Here's the post from David's Instagram account which I believe is actually controlled by his son Sam. You can visit Instagram to see the other posts. Membership not required to view.

    Sad to hear this.

It would be nice to be able to publicly post the security vid somewhere. That might get some action. In Oregon this qualifies as Theft in the First Degree. Probably not very likely possible, but it would be nice.

I seriously doubt the thieves knew who owned the case they stole or knew what instruments Dawg might play. I also seriously doubt they even know who David is. This was most likely a crime of opportunity and not a targeted robbery. It could have happened any place in the country or the world for that matter.

David Grisman's wife Tracy is an artist. The loss of the 70 art prints and the art portfolio may be as equally painful as the the loss of the microphones. Maybe the art will turn up somewhere and lead to the identity of the thief. Here's hoping.
