    Default Applying stain

I am getting ready to put the stain on my mandolin
Ive always sprayed but then theres all that scraping
Not that i really mind but these old arthritic hands jus
Done hold out long i think i try wiping the stain on
I believe i can be a little careful and not have as much
On the binding but to say all this ive never done this way
What kind of cloth would you use to wipe it on with ive read
Some use just an old rag but i think should be something
As free of dust as possible. Would love to shoot it but just cant
    Thanks for any answers

I use old t-shirts. Fresh out of the laundry and cut into pieces. Same for varnish, whenever I'm not spraying.

    Thanks,

Ah yes, the scraping of binding, ugh. I have taken to using the special pinstriping tape that automotive people use, it bends on curves nicely. It seems like that no matter how carefully I bed the tape, some color still sneaks under it, so there's always some scraping clean up. I've found a really small card scraper used with my thumb for fence helps me to get that color scraped off the binding.

As far as stain goes, I don't think the rage used will make much difference, just let it dry real well before top coating. I only use TransTint these days and either hand rub sunbursts or tint my lacquer.
