Default Vintage photo of a Lyon & Healy mando cello

Thought some might be interested. I'd buy it if the price was more reasonable.

Those are some rare finds-the L&H MandoCello that is! I've seen one recently for sale somewhere-heck I say recent but for all I know it could've been years ago!

Gee, apparently the Fairmont Creamery Old-Timers had both a "Shorty" and a "Slim" as members. Old-time radio days...

A friend of mine owns a similar L&H mandocello. He told me he appreciates the grace of its look and the excellent workmanship in its construction. But he also said the neck feels like a "baseball bat."

Some of those baseball bat necks are surprisingly comfortable to play. Seems counterintuitive, and I have small hands to boot. I'd certainly love the chance to find out how playable one of those L&H 'cellos is!

I have played a few L&H mandocelli and I don't recall the necks being that "baseball battish". In fact I would say they were less so than teen Gibson mandocelli. I think the L&H were among the best of the vintage ones.

I was wary of reproducing a photo the seller clearly didn't want copied. However I found another copy of it.

I found another photo of this band here on North Dakota Historical Society, however, no mandocello.

Also, more info on members of the band here.

    Okay, here's an historical question:
What is the relationship of Andy Anderson to the band, and why does he rate having his last name included? Is he the same person as the one in the middle in the previous picture without a name?? Enquiring minds are curious.

They may be the same person. Andy Anderson was the emcee of the radio show that ran on WDAY out of Fargo/Moorhead (North Dakota and Minnesota) where the band was featured. The article (which is behind a paywall) also has the real names of the other musicians in the second photo that Jim found.

I'm with you. All I can guess is my friend has a very slim-handled baseball bat.
