    Default 2005 Eastman 504 - any good?

An email acquaintance some distance away has offered me a 2005 (I think) Eastman 504 for a very fair price. It's the style with the old 'two corner' symmetrical headstock top rather than the current assymetric design. He says it hasn't been played for years, and the strings (those that are there) have had it big time. Somebody (not him) has played it a lot at one time, judging by the dings and scratches in playing areas. Have any of you played this vintage Eastman 504, if so was it any good? I'm looking for another 'player/beater' mando to leave in the car and so on.

    Thanks, Max

I've played a few 504's of that era and found them all to be very decent - not a fan of the old headstock shape but aside from that no complaints here.

Thanks guys - from your comments, it sounds OK for an affordable used mandolin. If the finish wear on back of the headstock top is anything to judge, this one's been around - either it's seen a lot of pub tables, or the original owner was Fred Flintstone

I'm not a big fan of the old peg head shape, however, at the right price I'd consider anything 😉

Well Zach, as so often, 'the right price' turned out to be a problem. It seems my acquaintance's mental image of a 'very fair price' relates (as so often now) to the current 'retail' sticker price for the new and improved design, not the value to a player of a very well used older, but non 'vintage' or collectible, instrument. Oh well, pass - the search for another beater goes on...
