I'm not even sure its precisely a mandolin. If so, the neck is Piccolo sized, and it has a round hole, 2-1/4" in Dia,

As said 3" thick; Nice tone from what I get from the 5 strings left.

Front and back are Spruce, No paper, of any visible remnants inside.

Soundboard and back have the slightest of arch.

I had a mandolin that looked rather like that which I bought in a shoe store in Costa Rica about 30 years ago. I can't make a direct comparison, as the neck twisted and I passed it on to someone with more patience.

Edit: Mine was similar to this one, and from the same maker (or possibly his brother, who was also a luthier):

What's the scale length, being the vibrating portion of the strings from nut to bridge (approx.)? Mandolin is often 13 7/8", short being 13", sometimes 14.5" or so.

    Thanks Guys!

I think Alan may have nailed it. I did a Google search for images, and found quite a few similar, one virtually identical including the tailpiece, (sort of a "gull wing" thing..) Assuming the ones I saw were accurately accounted for, Mid 60's Paracho - Even the 3" depth looked right.

Is is a Mandolin? Ed, the length you asked for is just over 13-1/2. so that's right for a Mando. Other descriptions I saw mentioned a "piccolo" mandolin vs soprano, so maybe that has merit also?

I'm going to assume the strings are the same in any case - I may have a spare set.

This is mando #3 for me, plus a project banjolin I need to re-skin and fix up otherwise... i'm not a serious player (I always say I "play at" the guitars and mandos.. - same with harmonica, which I haven't touched on years), but I love collecting small instruments and have quite a few.
