Thread: String Source for "Chicago Tuning" for Octave Mandolin

Default String Source for "Chicago Tuning" for Octave Mandolin

Just got a new Eastman Octave Mandolin. I'd like to use "Chicago Tuning" - DGBe - like the top 4 strings of a guitar. Does anyone have a source the appropriate strings and/or advice on proper gauge/string tension if I have to get individual strings???

Well, Eastman is calling for EJ80 for GDAE tuning, which contains a 12 for the E and a 32 for the D.

    So, projecting that tension into Chicago tuning, I'd start with 12 [E]- 16 [B]- 25 [G]-32 [D].
Adjust if anything feels too flabby or stiff.

D'Addario, GHS, and Curt Mangan each sell a complete line of loop end single strings.
