    Default RIP Barry Kratzer

Barry Kratzer, who built Bulldog and Kratzer instruments died last night in Savannah from complications of COVID. Barry was also a singer and musician who played in bands in Pennsylvania and all over the southeast. He was a fixture at Randy Wood's Saturday jam session for over 15 years. He was a friend and will be missed by many

Rest In Peace Barry. He's been a fixture on the Cafe for years and a source of instruments for many. It's a sad loss.

I'm shocked to hear this. I knew Barry from my time in Philadelphia. Barry played in a band (Rockledge) with friends of mine. Sad news, indeed.

Oh no! Barry and I talked on the phone several times, though we never met in person. I always enjoyed our talks and trading tips and tricks. RIP Barry!

So sad. Rip. I feel like he just was posting very recently. I always thought the bulldog logo was cool.

The only time I met him (at Randy W's place), he offered me a mandolin to play when I showed up with a beater. Never mentioned who he was or that he'd built it.

As a close friend of Barry Kratzer, I know he will be missed severely by so many! He was a great instrument builder and all his instruments sounded and looked great. For all those who own a Bulldog/Kratzer instrument, you know what great work he did! Barry did not pass from anything due to COVID, but having to do with some heart complications. Please keep his family in prayer!

Agreeing with Lucy. We knew Barry so well and talked to his wife on the phone the day he passed. Tragically he passed from a heart attack and we are devastated! The details don't matter all that much, but did want to clear up the misconceptions.

Very sad news indeed - a big loss. I owned a couple of Barry's F5s - both a great bluegrass ax. This one-of-a-kind, I dubbed "Cept Old Bill". There was something pretty lively about that one . . . I wonder why? RIP Barry and thanks for everything.

This is the other F5 of Barry's that I was fortunate enough to own and enjoy. Number 41, "The Palm" was a joy to play - and one of the greatest headstocks ever. Luckily we have this video of #41 doing what Barry built it for. Full disclosure . . . that ain't me pickin Barry brought so much to our community and his fine instruments are out there this very day making the music he loved.
