Thread: Jazz Mando: 4 string single course or double?

  1. #1

Default Jazz Mando: 4 string single course or double?

I'm getting ready to build a jazz mando: carved top, f-holes, cutaway, etc.
Is a four string preferred to an eight string for jazz playing?
How about body depth, compared to a bluegrass body?
    Scale?
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Five strings, single course. Same body depth, 14.5-15” scale. I’d put a pickup at the 17 or 18th fret for a fat jazz tone.

Thanks, how is a 5 string tuned at a 15" scale?
