Thread: Help identifying this old mandolin?

Default Help identifying this old mandolin?

I recently picked up this old mandolin from Facebook marketplace for $15. I intend to clean it, restore it however I can as a little learning project. I cannot discern any identifying marks or labels on it. The nut seems like it may reveal something, but I really have no clue. The seller told me she originally bought it (used, of course) at an arts fare in northern California.
Can anyone suggest any clues or any information about this? This is my first post here, and naturally I appreciate any insight.

Welcome. Some photos would help, especially of any labels you can see. Good luck with it. The price certainly was right for an experiment.

Possibly European, has ‘zero fret’ and the slotted headstock. Strings look low, so bridge needs something under to raise it. And one tuner knob or button needs replacement. And then you can fuss with cosmetics if that’s your idea. Search on this website for information on what I just mentioned, or get a book.
Not likely a valuable one, so don’t worry about any mistakes.

It wasn't made in the US. It could be European or even from Mexico.
