Uh-huh. Maybe every other hour. But congratulations! When a search pays off, it's worth whatever it took. Enjoy!

I like the Cafe and classifieds because it is an uplifting treasure on the internet. No bad news or ugly opinions, just mandolins. OK I have to admit that I have MAS but it is a medicine good for the soul.
It's not an addiction... It's an investment.

That's like saying you got a headache and you take 2 Advils. Your headache will come back. Seriously looking at them through a bright light screen is not the same as touching them, smelling them, and pickin' them.
So, for MAS, take two mandolins and call me in the morning. Maybe just one. And don't call too early ...

While not actively looking for anything, I do find myself checking the classifieds pretty much every day. I have done this for years, and a couple of times I have seen something that all of a sudden I can't live without. Usually something I see as just a great deal Is there such a thing as InstaMAS?

Enjoy the new mando! I check the classifieds nearly every day as well, then go play either of my mandolins and think, 'these are great!' So far so good....
I check the classifieds nearly every day just because I love looking at mandolins. Haven't bought another one in about 5 years, but no harm in looking. "Just because I'm on a diet doesn't mean I can't look at the menu..." LOL!!

I don't have MAS - not at a disruptive level, having assuaged it (for now) through purchases - but I check the Forum hourly, it seems like. I guess I'm living vicariously, enjoying folks' enjoyment and tales of searching and finding. I mean, I'm pretty much all set (still want a reso), but it's good to read others' success stories. It makes me happy to see so much happiness experienced and expressed about this.

Raise your hand if when you made your last instrument purchase, you promised your spouse you would not buy another one until 2023.
I don't see any hands--hold 'em up high! Is it really just me?
Since summer of 2020, I've acquired five mandolins (two of those are octave and they're all different). Recently I decided it was time for me to learn guitar, an instrument I had managed to avoid for nearly 63 years now. I now have three, one of which is a bass.
Everything is acoustic, because acoustic.
I guess that'll keep me busy until the next new year. But I'm already thinking of what I'll want to add to the stable then . . . .

Yoko, my ca. 1963 Yamaha Dynamic No.15 guitar, and Rich, my 1959 husband.
Well, I didn't make any time related promises, but I was supposed to sell one and haven't yet.
Nevertheless, I'm looking hard at something I don't need, but it's a marginally problematical distance away.
I have never managed "release" yet, I only "catch." I also play guitar, and I have all of the guitars I have ever wanted, and (like my mandolins,) they are better than I will ever live up to. They are far finer instruments than I will ever be a player, they will never "hold me back." But I long ago decided it was more fun to be "pretty good" at many instruments than superb at just one. So I go merrily along having fun with many different instruments, very gradually improving but will never (unless I live to 150) get there. The fun (for me) is in the journey.

Well, since I'm not sharing my cabin with anyone, for better or worse, for richer or poorer (which is where MASsers end up), I'm good for now. I mean, there's no one to stop me or try to talk me out of iffy purchases. Except for all y'all hereabouts - and thanks to everyone who helped me back off from the Bullet Hole Steel Mandolin.
This video/song is about fishing (more or less), not buying instruments, but both involve scales, so ...
PS: Didn't you use to include your husband in your signature's lift of acquisitions?

Every mandolin I have acquired I intended to keep forever. And I have only deaquisitioned two. Over many many years.

I feel your pain. Sadly, a good friend of mine pointed out that MAS also stands for microphone acquisition syndrome:/
Thanks. I just have an unreformed former editor's eye for detail, when it comes to the written word.
I've long thought it was very charming, your list of anthropomorphized instruments. Good for a chuckle now and then. Including hubby was a nice fit with the humor. When I saw he was no longer named, I was a bit concerned. I wondered whether you had offloaded him, how much you got in trade for him, things like that. I imagine the trade-in value on vintage SO's is considerably less than that for vintage mandolins. Glad to learn my concern was not warranted.
