I sent my beloved 1956 Gibson F-12 off to Max and Lauri's farm in rural Rhode Island for some very much needed maintenance and sprucing up. It was recently shipped back to me after a short 4 or 5 weeks and I am ecstatic over the results. First, the sprucing; (while I am only speculating on the repair history of this mandolin) it would appear that the head stock overlay had been replaced by Gibson at some time in the scorned 1970's. The first pic is how it looked when I first got the mandolin about 20 years ago. The second pic is how it looked, dreaded binding rot and all when I sent it to Max. The third pic is how it looks now after Max spun his magic spell. To say I'm very pleased is a serious understatement.
On to the maintenance; Max pulled all of the very worn frets, planed the fret board flat, installed medium EVO frets, reworked the bridge and saddle so now I have up/down adjustment again. It plays and sounds great and is quite the looker, a joy to the hands, ears and eyes. Thank you Max for your expertise, communication and patience. I would recommend the Girouards in a heartbeat.
