Thread: Valse de Jouets

    Default Valse de Jouets

Hello, I've been reading The Cafe for quite a while and thought that perhaps it was finally time to post a video. The tune is a Michel Faubert composition, which I learned from Pascal Gemm a few days ago. Thought "The Waltz of the Toys" would be a nice tune for the season.

Hi, I can't get the video to show on the link but it's there. Any advice on making the video visible is appreciated.

I edited it to display correctly by our coding but there seems to be some kind of issue with the video display on a PC desktop, though the music comes through fine. It plays correctly on an iPhone though. I'll email you back instructions since you inquired. I haven't noticed other problems with FB videos but will keep an eye on others in case this is a trend.

Doesn't show up visually on either my PC desktop or Android phone. On both the audio does work so we can hear the tune.

Plus, thanks for posting this. And very nice playing. Our local Quebecois jammers play it and I had forgotten about it. Had to dust it off last night and will play it again today. Thank you for reminding me of the tune.

Thanks for getting back to me Whistler. Can't quite figure out what I did wrong (or didn't do). Scott T. sent me some instructions, so I may try again later.

Hi Eric! Thanks for the kind words. To my knowledge we don't have a Quebecois session in Pittsburgh. However, even if we did I probably have fewer than 20 Quebecois tunes, so far.
It looks like the video came up. I don't understand it but I'll go with it.

Eric and I participate in a weekly Zoom Québécois music jam on Thursday evenings at 7pm EST. If you are on Facebook you can contact Paul Fackler to allow you to join. It is a useful way to hear and learn new tunes.

I had forgotten about this fine little tune, Munnix. Fine playing.

Many thanks, Munnix. It was your posting here that made me decide to have a go at it. I first heard it at a fiddle workshop and then forgot about it until your video appeared here. You should post yours over on the SAW Group as well as here - I have put mine there and started a thread.

SAW group? Unfamiliar with it. Googling it didn't provide any help. Appreciate the encouragement John.

Look under the "Learn and Listen" at the top of the site, Munnix, then on the submenu "Social Groups" select the Song-A-Week Group. We are a very supportive bunch over there and there is a good hard core of regular posters and a very wide variety of tunes being posted.

Lovely song. Found version on The Session in key of E maj. Not a common key in the mandolin orbit. Get to dust off some infrequently used frets.

I love your version, John! Not many tunes work well on mandolin at that tempo.

Many thanks, Mike. It is one of those tunes that just get into your head when you first hear it. I was not conscious of the tempo I was playing it at.

Then I’d say that must be the perfect tempo!

I can never tell if this is going to work or not….I can’t open mp3s from this site on my iPad.

Anyway, this is my attempt at Valse des Jouets. Thanks to John Kelly!
