So twice now I have tried to embed videos from youtube using the usual method, highlighting only the part after the v= sign, hitting ctrl c and than when I go to post it, the embedding fails. Any help?

I believe this is why - things have changed. Scroll to the end for an explanation of the solution.
My understanding is when you use the youtube button in the Advanced mode, the prompt it provides no longer contains the = in the first set of brackets. If you paste the identifier code in between the two sets of brackets, your video will be embedded. I may not have that quite right, and this may change, and there may well be a better way to do this - the Insert Video button seems to be preferred - and I am very likely to be corrected soon enough. But this should get you started. I wonder whether old videos will no longer play now.
Finally, see what others are using. Go to a recent post with a video, hit Reply with Quote, and look at or even imitate the code there. You know it's working by the results. Once you've got that sorted out, cancel your reply - it's for research only.
But that's just my opinion. I could be wrong. - Dennis Miller

So, I used the "go advanced" to reply, hit the youtube icon but instead of seeing the box to put the video into, it automatically did what you see here.
Thanks for any suggestions.

And it seemed to work!

Here's what I see, below, so this is what you entered. There's no video visible because there's no YouTube ID for any video. You have to post the video ID in between the tags. Once you hit the YouTube button it places the cursor squarely between the two tags and you can paste it in or you could type it manually, the latter which I wouldn't recommend because it's too easy to make a mistake in that 11 digit code.
To be sure this works as stated above here's the video of Hawktail posted a few days ago:

So here's what that tag should look like, below, after clicking the YouTube icon and then inserting the video ID. Conversely, you can also just grab the full web address of your YouTube video and use the video insertion tool that's present on both Quick Reply and Advanced mode.
