Around here we have a saying: "Only a Givson is good enough!"
"It's comparable to playing a cheese slicer."

I looked this one up - turns out Collins dictionary definies toon as:

'...a large Australian and East Indian tree (Cedrela toona) of the mahogany family...'

Very appropriate! Well, you learn something every day.

This company's instrument come up for our entertainment here from time to time. They have actually been making instruments in Kolkata since the 1980s. Obviously also copying Gibson's logo. Oh well...

They also make Strat shaped solid guitars, including the enticingly named 'Givson Santacruz', maybe it fell off an Ebay advert for one of those? I see their website lists '6 string Spanish guitars (with F-Hole)', which is fair enough - but also '6 string Spanish guitar (with R-Hole)', which is very close to a marketing fail Never mind, my Hindi's worse...

I also chuckled at toon wood, so also looked it up. So, educational.
Maybe some folks who know Hindi as first language also wonder whether there’s a wood called ‘tone’ that they keep seeing here?

Seems that there is a wood related to mahogany called toona or toon. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toona

Toona, commonly known as redcedar,[2] toon (also spelled tun) or toona, tooni (in India) is a genus in the mahogany family, Meliaceae, native from Afghanistan south to India, and east to North Korea, Papua New Guineaand eastern Australia.

It’s sad it doesn’t have those real Gibson self tuners, “when only a Gibson is good enough”.

Then again, they probably didn’t have to crush a few truckloads of those quality instruments.

I think it's safe to say that Roger Rabbit would gladly play some old-time toons on one of these.

I'm certainly impressed by the German Silver frets and the fancy plastic nut.

Wow! That name is a blast from the past! I happened upon a Givson acoustic guitar at the Aloha Stadium Swap Meet in the mid-80s. Horrible sunburst finish, no center interior backstrip; just cleats, and an enthusiastic seller who assured me it was "vintage". If she had priced it under $10, I'd have bought it to hang on the wall!

Some have accused me of having a "6 string Spanish guitar (with A-Hole)" -- which says more about me than about the instrument...

I like the lump scroll. And the magnetic steel strings. It also has some intriguing innovative features, like a pickup with a tailpiece, and a "body of Lacquer." Just think of all the money you'll save on polish, with a body made of lacquer. Then there's the plastic bridge, which, as is accurately pointed out, "is not prevalent in many of the famous and high rated mandolins." But I'm disappointed at not seeing the 1 pc 5 way switch. I was psyched to see what that could do.
But that's just my opinion. I could be wrong. - Dennis Miller

I've had the privilege of playing some of their instruments, including this model electric mandolin, when we were testing product samples at a music wholesaler I worked for in the 1990-s - 2000's.

None of y'all are missing anything, they were decidedly "meh" at best and the QC was very undependable.

    Maybe they have improved.
