    An old college roommate was born with six fingers on each hand, but, unfortunately, his parents had the extra digits amputated. He played banjo and wished that he still had the lost digits, figuring that he’d be able to play like no one else, maybe even that jazz chord on the lower left!

    Steven Grossman tells about trying to figure out a Reverend Gary Davis tune, but couldn’t get the fingering. He later discovered that the Reverend’s broken hand had not been set properly; as a result Davis could doing fingerings not available to the rest of us. And let’s not forget Django…….
