Thread: who might have built this?

Default who might have built this?

Does anybody have any idea who might have built this beautiful mandolin? It has no label. There is a beautiful Catania mando on ebay that looks similar, with the frets over the soundhole too. (It is NOT for sale)

1st: Not a clue (but not an expert!).
2nd: Beautiful! Probably high-end per the high count of "barrel staves".
3rd: Unique "rope" design around each pinion's screw hole; don't recall having seen that before.

Also, be sure the tuners are well-lubed before tuning up; those cracks in the (plastic/ivory?) buttons are not auspicious. This should help:

This one's already been discussed on Facebook, with Eugene Braig and others strongly suggesting Catania (Sicily) as its origin.

That is a lot of bling, but (for the most part) it's tastefully executed.

I'd be willing to put my trust in any encyclopedia of mandolin knowle(d)ge that included our own Eugene Braig.

I've heard he knows quite a bit about fish as well.
