    It seems Waidele was of German ancestry. This begs the question, was it made in Germany? We will probably never know but the fact that it is for sale in Michigan suggests it came to the USA with an emigrant Swede as there was a large influx of Swedes to Michigan and other nearby states 100 odd years ago- Charles Lindbergh's parents being a good example and he himself, was born in Michigan.

    Could it be frustration with tuning a mandolin with friction pegs, that led Charles L to take up aviation?

    I think Linbergh was known for dogged determination and his emotionless persona but trying to play a mandolin with friction pegs would be quite a test and would endow one with enough determination to fly the Atlantic single-handed!
