Thread: counting - quaver , crotchet.....?

  1. #1

Default counting - quaver , crotchet.....?

Basic question but having an issue counting a single quaver followed by a crotchet.

in the attachment fine with first measure (quaver ,quaver, crotchet , quaver , quaver, crotchet)
    I would count as

    1 and, 2, 3 and, 4

but can't get my head around how to count the second measure easily (quaver, crotchet, quaver, crotchet ,crotchet) . What is the best way?

For your first measure (quaver ,quaver, crotchet , quaver , quaver, crotchet) count 1,&,2&,3,&,4& and for the second measure (quaver, crotchet, quaver, crotchet ,crotchet) count 1,&2,&,3&,4&.

While it's not actually counting, I tried to see what common tune has that rythmn, and the one song that just kept coming back is the first two lines of that classic:

    Something familiar
    Something peculiar
    Something for everyone—a comedy tonight!
