    Default Hand Surgery

Back in September I injured my left hand. That injury resulted in a trigger finger from hell. Orthopedist went the conservative route, steroid injections and immobilization without success. I had the surgery to correct the issue yesterday. Dang. I didn’t think it was possible to have a hand as tender as my left one is. Looking forward to playing again.

I haven't had to do a hand yet but I did have a shoulder done that slowed me down quite a bit. Here's hoping you recover quickly and do the physical therapy. They have ways of getting things moving again.

I've had that done with almost all my fingers. You will be back to playing in no time.

Well wishes to you. I’m facing carpal tunnel surgery on my left in a few weeks followed by my right after recovery. Hope you are back to picking soon.

I have a little bit of trigger finger beginning so I've read up on it quite a bit. Fortunately I've been able to keep mine under control pretty well, but from what I gather it is relatively simple and straight forward surgery... That is, in the eyes of the surgeon at least, who of course is not the one having his/her hand cut open!
Healing the wound should be the worst of it, and after healing everything should work well. Hope it goes smoothly.

I had the surgery 10 years ago and during recovery, my surgeon obsessed with keeping my hand in a sling for a few weeks so that it was always (24/7) about the level of my heart or slightly higher.

Once I was out of the sling, he advised me to make a stiff cardboard mitten-shaped cutout that I could use to keep my fingers stretched out while I slept by loosely binding it to my hand with an ace bandage.

I do try my best to do whatever my doctors advise; my surgery worked well and my hand is as good as it ever was - but the recovery was a little more tedious than for any other surgery I've had.

    Lane,

Get well soon. I'm happy for you that the surgery is behind you and now you just need to heal. Best of luck!

Hey Lane, I'm praying that your nightmare is coming to an end. Not being able to play is another kind of pain. I've done a couple of injections on my left index finger for a condition that is the opposite of trigger finger. Good healing to you!

Had hip replacement 1.5 years ago and everything went great. I credit much of this my physical therapists. Follow the physical therapy protocols, especially doing your homework. Not just your sessions at the clinic. It can make for a much better outcome. Best of luck!

4 surgeries to right hand and 3 to left for Duypetrens contracture. Do what your therapists says and then do a little extra. You’ll be playing again in no time, in fact the playing will aid in your recovery. Best wishes!

Sorry to hear but hope things get better.

I remember slicing my middle finger on my left hand up pretty bad. Got stitches in it but still had gigs to play so I just left the metal stint on it and played without that finger. Basically I was giving everyone in the audience the bird with my left hand haha. It was difficult but an interesting limitation to have to work around. My pinky definitely got more of a workout haha.

I'm not sure the extent of your injury and what you can/cannot do with it - but you might find playing without your first finger an interesting challenge as well. This could force you to learn new chord positions and/or find new ways to use your pinky. Just a thought on the brighter side

Had my right thumb dislocated by one of my horses, was told 6 weeks recovery, I got it done in 4 weeks. Not the same, but I did all the exercises I was told and a few more repetitions, the thumb still LOOKS awful 5 years later, but functions fine, which is all that matters to me (at age 66, being above ground is a good look for me! lol!!)
