Ha ha ha! Very clever! And what a great time-efficient how-to video - direct, to-the-point, succinct. No frills, no fat, no tangents. Spot on.
I can see doing this, though it does seem piano is more well-suited to the task. But I daresay this is likely to be in the back of my mind now.
But that's just my opinion. I could be wrong. - Dennis Miller
Furthering Mandolin Consciousness
Finders Keepers, my duo with the astoundingly talented and versatile Patti Rothberg. Our EP is finally done, and available! PM me, while they last!
I think this is great.
Obviously when words (meaning) are connected to music (emotion) then it can get pretty political really quickly. The thing I do have problems with in these vids is that the people speaking are having their intention hijacked. It doesn’t seem fair somehow. But maybe that’s what Art is all about? The other thing is that the best ones seem to come from people who already have a singing culture.
But trying to get beyond that, I think this is a valuable skill that mandolinists need to learn. After all, when the singer in a band stops singing then that’s the cue to play something; something that’s related to what the singer is putting out.
And related in many ways.
It’s true that some styles of music actually encourage each individual to express themselves for themselves, but there has to be some sort of consensus for each tune/song. No? I tried making a list of all the different techniques that can be used to express words/emotions...
