Thread: Good F5 Strap

  1. #1

    Default Good F5 Strap

I am wondering if anyone has any recs for a good strap to hang on my strap hanger. Looking for the strap to be comfortable and for the loop for the hanger to be thin enough that I don't have to fight it to get on the scroll. Any suggestions?

Bought mine from UK company Pinegrove Leather. One of these - https://www.pinegroveleather.com/man...-strap-f-shape

They do a range of suitable mandolin straps but that one is the simplest and the cheapest.

You’ll need to bear in mind that they’re currently in the process of moving premises (for the second time in the past year). I have at least 4 of their straps and have always found them helpful.

Been using a rawhide boot lace for many years, and bring along a roll of dental floss, just in case.

I like the leather straps from Northfield. They get nice & soft after a lot of use.

    Thanks for the recs!

I think I have a Long Hollow softy that I use with my A models. I love it buy would want something where I don't have to tie off the end to make the loop. I want one that is stitched. I had a Dudette made by Lynn Dudenbostels daughter that I foolishly gave away a few years ago.

I got a thin (ukulele like) strap and attached a shoelace (in a loop) to the end.

I'll second Pinegrove Leather. Great stuff. Shipping was faster than expected too.

Hey Josh, enjoying that Presto case I got from you. Check out leatherandbraid.com and go to their custom order section. Really superb braid work, do not own one yet but definitely on my wish list. If you email them Tammy will send you some great pictures.

Bailey straps are very nice straps, and they are stunning. They don't have a big leather loop to fight at the scroll.

I have a Randy Hogan strap that is round braided and is great. Unfortunately, I don't think he is making them anymore?

Plus one on the Sully strap recommendation. He hammers the loop end very flat and it's stitched

I have a Lakota strap. It was too thick to fit into the scroll of my F2. I had to use a piece of leather shoe lace as an adapter.
    I like it otherwise.

In my first message I forgot to say I currently use a Bailey Strap that I have used daily for 10 years I believe.

I have a Dawg Leash and two Lakota Leathers straps. The Lakota Leathers straps are fantastic! One’s on my Ratliff F-style and the other on my Eastman MDO305 octave mando.

Wow thanks everyone! So many beautiful straps. I was able to find a used Dudette in the classifieds, so going to go with that for now but will definitely reference this down the line. Those El Dorado straps are beautiful.
